We have 2 children 5 year old son and an 8 month old dauhter. when Jericho first met her, you could hear him smelling her to blocks away it was so loud. we had to keep him in the back away from her because he was to intrested and it would scare her. but every time he heard her cry he would bark or whine.our 5 year old and him like to dig in the dirt together. my son will throw a handful and Jericho will "fetch" it. it really is quit a sight to see them rolling around in the dirt together. and Jericho wont dig in the dirt any other time. |

Gizmo, The |
Gizmo, a
Purebred was
adopted by
Anita from
United States. |
Here's how
Anita describes
Gizmo :
Gizmo is very smart! learns quickly! very loyal! cuddly! and exteremly loving!!! |
Does
Gizmo 's behavior show the inherent
characteristics?
Most papillon are described as hard to house break. not true with gizmo. i bought him at 8 wks. old and he was completely broke at 3 mo. i have read that they will bark at anything strange and are described as good watch dogs. i thing gizo barks too much for the papillons that i've read about. |
Special Achievement of Gizmo :
Gizmo (papillon) is very smart and learns commands and tricks at nothing. he can sit, sit stay, lay, lay stay, play fetch, and leave it command, come when called. he can also do tricks: weave through my legs, roll over, and sit up. he is only 1 yr. old and i don't want to over load him. i am looking forward to teaching him more tricks and seeing what else he can learn to do. i would love to teach him to dance. who knows he may be the next pet star. |
Anita's advice on what type of family should adopt
a :
I think papillons would better fit a family of at least 4. there is only my husband and me at home. paps have a lot of energy. i think they would be happy with kids who also have a lot of energy.families would have to realize papillons are delicate and shouldn't be with kids younger than 6 or 7 yrs. old. paps like to be active! |

Bear, The |
Bear, a
Purebred was
taken in by
Tammy Lamb from
United States. |
Here's how
Tammy Lamb describes
Bear :
He is not the typical chihuahua. he's a little lover, loves everyone and is always happy. loves to play and run and sunbath! he is not the ankle biter that most people think. even if he doesn't know you my husband and i will be calm and happy and he picks this up so then he's calm and happy. |
Does
Bear 's behavior show the inherent
characteristics?
Not at all! he's so happy and loves just about everyone. he loves kids, dogs, cats. my husband and i will get him excited and happy about someone new and he picks this up and immediatley will accept the new person. |
Special Achievement of Bear :
Make sure you never spank your chihuahua, i got alot of books on the breed when i bought bear at 3wks old to prepare myself. one thing they repeated is that if you spank them they will fear you. you don"t want that! our bear is a lover and is so happy! |
Tammy Lamb's advice on what type of family should adopt
a :
Anyone that is willing to put the time into this special breed. they are a clingy dog so be prepared. bear is my and my husbands shadow. but we love it. we take him where ever we can. |
About
Shadow, The |
Shadow, a
Purebred was
rescued by
Joyce from
United States. |
Here's how
Joyce describes
Shadow :
Dark with lots of secrets. she's two years old, spayed, looks to have had a litter, quick learner, distracted by small animals.
the shelter said she's a blue heeler mix. |
Does
Shadow 's behavior show the inherent
characteristics?
I don't know enough about her breed other than we chose her for her intelligence, temperament and size. she loves attention and she has a good right hook if she doesn't get it. she's not interested in squeaky toys, but boy can she chew in record speed. since we started walking her before and after we get home, the chewing has slowed down. considerably. we can't wait to train her correctly and learn new tricks. |
Special Achievement of Shadow :
She's a sweet girl and a 30 pound angel who is going to help our family lose 30 pounds(collectively) as we are walking her twice a day. |
Joyce's advice on what type of family should adopt
a :
Families who take their dogs everywhere to exercise them, socialize them and just show off with a great, loyal dog. |
About
Princess, The |
Princess, a
Purebred was
rescued by
Peggy from
United States. |
Here's how
Peggy describes
Princess :
princess is about five years old now. i rescued her about two years ago, from a shelter who found her on the street. she was undernourished and infested with two types of worms and had extreme hair loss, by the handfuls. she still has an aggression problem with other dogs when on a leash, but is fine with them off leash in dog parks.i believe she she must have been a yard dog, because she wasn't acclimated to things in the house. in fact, she was terified of the toilet, and tried to attack the tv whenever it was turned on. princess isn't as hyper as other eskies that i have met. she's very calm and lazy around the house, but she would like to play tug with her rope toy for hours if i were to let her. i find ignoring her demands far more benificial then yelling at her. after a couple of minutes of ignoring her, she finally gives up, but with wimpering as she walks away. it's actually very funny to see her do this. it's like watching a spoiled child. she loves to be brushed, proberbly becase it means more attention, and i always reward her with a game of tug afterwards. she is a very loving and devoted dog. she would defend me with her life, if she had to. excellent watch dog. she can be very comical with her antics, all to get your attention. |
Does
Princess 's behavior show the inherent
characteristics?
Yes, some do. she is very cautious of strangers. she won't relax unless i tell her it's okay, and tell her to say hello to so and so. i wouldn't trust her as an off lease dog as she wants to wander and investigate everything. she has a strong hunting instinct around other small animals, very aggressive. she does have that eskie stubborn streak when it comes to training, unless i make it into a game. sometimes she invents her own games as i am trying to train her different commands. she does eventually give in and now has a very large vocabulary of commands.
|
Special Achievement of Princess :
basic command training is a must for an eskie, or their stuborness, and sometimes over protection of the family pack will want to rule the house. also having a yard to release that extra energy would also be benificial. princess does fine in my apartment, however, daily walks are a must, since we don't have a yard. i strongly feel these walks are what keeps her calm through the day, and has also helped to acclimate her to different sounds and sights, which in turn has helped to control her aggression. |
Peggy's advice on what type of family should adopt
a :
If you wish to adopt/rescue an older eskie, i highly
recommend that the dog be evaluated around other animals and children before hand. if you obtain a puppy, it is very important to acclimate the puppy to
children and other dogs and small animals and people while young. with proper training while young, an eskie makes a great family pet as well as a great companion for a single person. if you are an active outdoor type of person/family, then an eskie is the dog for you. take them everywhere with you, they are a lot of fun! |
