About English Foxhound
Country of Origin, History of English Foxhounds
The English Foxhound was carefully bred with the Greyhound, the Bulldog, and the Fox Terrier.
In an effort to produce a dog that could excel at rat baiting and rabbit coursing, Black and Tan Terriers were crossed with the Whippet.
By 1860 Manchester had become the breed centre for these new terriers, and so they became known as Manchester Terriers. Because of their demeanor, they were called the Gentleman's Terrier in Victorian times.

General Appearance of the Breed
The English Foxhound is an elegant, clean-cut, athletic hound, with a long muzzle and wide skull, long neck and strong hindquarters. Its large brown eyes have a sweet expression. The ears lay flat to the head. Proven hunting hounds often have the bottom edge of their ears rounded (shortened) to avoid nicks and tears during the hunt. The legs are absolutely straight, with round, cat-like feet.
Coat:
The short, hard, easy care coat is usually tri-color (black, white & tan), or bi-color with a white background.
Height
Dogs 22-25 inches (56-63 cm.)
Bitches 21-24 inches (53-61 cm.)
Weight: 65-70 pounds (29-32 kg.)

English Foxhound Personality Traits
Temperament of the Dog
The English Foxhound is a very active, loyal, tireless, bold and passionate hunter. They are friendly with people and excellent with children, but prefer to be in the company of other dogs and does quite well with other animals. The English Foxhound likes to bay. It is ready to be retired at the age of about seven or eight. This breed is still primarily a pack hunting dog, though show lines can make good companions if given sufficient exercise.
Living Conditions
English Foxhounds are not recommended for apartment life. They are very active indoors and do best with acreage. They are usually kept in pack kennels of 20-30 dogs.
Training
They need to be taken on a daily, long, brisk walk, run or jog, preferably on leash. It can become destructive if confined too much. It is responsive and obedient to his master, but training takes patience.

Grooming
The short, hard coat of this average shedder is easy to care for. It should be combed and brushed with a firm bristle brush, and shampooed only when necessary.

Health and Care
It is a very healthy breed. Occasionally seen are chronic hip dysplasia, renal disease, and epilepsy.
