About Briard
Country of Origin, History of Briards
Normally dogs are bred either for guarding or for herding. Briards were different - to both herd and guard flocks of sheep.
The probably originated in France and were used for herding sheep during the daytime and as watchdogs in the night. They used to take care of the sheep and the shepherds from wolves and thieves.

Briards have heads well covered with hair, with a natural parting in the center. The eyes are lightly veiled by the curved eyebrows.

Briards are double coated dogs. The outer coat is coarse, hard, and dry while the undercoat is fine hair.

The Briard can be black, grey, tawny or blue or different shades of these colors.

Briard Personality Traits
The Briard is a loyal dog that is good at guard work and police work. They are strong, alert dogs that are very agile and obedient, which makes them easy to train as long as training is started when they are young. However, they do have to know who is in charge.
Their brave, sweet, and gentle attitude makes them a good family dog. They are good with children if they grew up with children.
They can be very stubborn, reserved with strangers, and fearful, and aggressive if not raised and trained correctly, which can make them very hard to live with. They are happiest with a very active family and have to have a job. They also need a fenced yard.
Grooming
Their coarse double-coat is very long and requires weekly brushing, but they do not shed a lot.
