Country of Origin, History of Bichon Yorkies
There is no known date or person who started the Bichon Yorkie breed, but it is believed it may have existed naturally over the years. However, it was only in the 1980s that designer dog breeders in North America mixed Bichon Frise and Yorkshire Terrier to develop Bichon Yorkies to have an intelligent, affectionate, companion dog. As demand for mixed breed dogs kept increasing, Bichon Yorkies became more and more popular.

A General Appearance of the Dog
The Bichon Yorkie is a very small, energetic dog with a high-pitched bark which can be used to alert you or insist you play or do whatever is on its schedule that day. It is important to train Bichon Yorkies not to bark too much.
Since Yorkies have downward hanging ears, and Bichons have upright ears, the Bichon Yorkie can have either style. It can also inherit the curly coat of the Bichon or the silky coat of the Yorkie. Its coloring can be white like a Bichon or a mixture of tan and black like a Yorkie or have all three colors in any pattern.
Coat
The Bichon Yorkie’s coat can be soft and curly like a Bichon or dense and silky like a Yorkie. It can come in a variety of colors such as white like a Bichon or tan and black like a Yorkie or any combination of these colors. Other colors include cream, golden, gray, and blue.

Temperament
The Spanish Water Dog is an extremely intelligent, fearless, ever-active, strong, attentive, happy and well balanced versatile working dog with strong herding, hunting and guardian instincts. It is a devoted companion. It is reserved, not shy, with strangers. They can be protective and territorial.
Are they suited to families with kids?
Most of them are good with children and other animals if properly socialized.
Training the Bichon Yorkie can be a challenge. Both the Bichon and the Yorkie are difficult to fully housetrain, so it is no surprise that the Bichon Yorkie may be difficult to housetrain. Extra vigilance and persistence as well as consistency in training methods will be successful.
They like to learn new things and please their humans, so start training early and practice often. Puppy kindergarten and an obedience class will set you up for success with your dog. They are usually treat motivated, so if they refuse to do training activities, use tiny bits of cooked meat to reward doing things correctly.
Without adequate training, the Bichon Yorkie will become headstrong, stubborn, and “in charge” of the household. They will not listen and obey if they are not taught and reinforced at a young age and throughout their lives.

How active is the breed?
They are quite energetic, but can get enough exercise indoors with their toys and interactions with people. They enjoy going places and meeting new people. They love outdoor walks if it is not too hot or too cold.
Whether your dog has the long, wavy coat of the Yorkie or the curly coat of the Bichon, it will need to be groomed frequently. You should brush your dog at least three times a week (daily is best), bathe it at least once a month, and have it professionally groomed every 6–8 weeks. Without these measures, its fur will become tangled and messy. It also sheds regularly.
This dog needs the fur around its eyes and ears trimmed regularly and its nails cut regularly. It will need its teeth cleaned daily, or at least every other day.
Although there is no breed that is completely hypoallergenic, this breed is considered more hypoallergenic than many others.
