A General Appearance of the Dog

The Goldendoodle is a crossbreeding of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Many are then re-bred to a Poodle so they are ¾ Poodle and ¼ Golden and thus, are more likely to be hypoallergenic. When the Poodle(s) used in the breeding are Standard, the resulting Goldendoodle is large, but if the Poodle(s) are Miniature, the Goldendoodle is a smaller dog called a Mini-Goldendoodle. In some instances, a Cocker Spaniel is also being introduced to the mix to create an even smaller Petite Goldendoodle. One must study the breed characteristics of all breeds to best understand the Goldendoodle.

Goldendoodles are happy in many types of households if they have ample opportunities for walks, runs, hikes, and playtimes. They are very energetic.

Goldendoodles can have the body type of a Poodle or that of a Golden Retriever. They usually appear athletic with long legs and a long, slightly curled tail. Their ears hang down. Their coats can be a rather messy-looking dense mass of curls or can take on a slightly smoother appearance. Coat colors include all of the Poodle colors (chocolate, black, apricot, cream, blue, silver, white) and the various shadings of Goldens (gold, red, yellow). The chest can be thinner like a Poodle or deeper like a Golden, giving them a wider stance. Most have brown eyes and a brown or black nose, but they can have blue or green eyes. While most people think all Goldendoodles are hypoallergenic, that is not true because many produce allergic reactions in those allergic to dog hair, so be sure to visit the dog for a couple of hours before agreeing to take it home if you have dog hair or dander allergies.

Coat

Their coats can be a rather messy-looking dense mass of curls or can take on a slightly smoother appearance. Coat colors include all of the Poodle colors (chocolate, black, apricot, cream, blue, silver, white) and the various shadings of Goldens (gold, red, yellow). Their dense, double coat is prone to matting or trapping dirt, so they should be brushed almost daily.

Chorkies are fairly hypoallergenic and don’t shed too much.
