A General Appearance of the Dog

The Chipoo is a combination of the Chihuahua breed and the Toy or Teacup or Miniature Poodle. To learn more about this breed, look up characteristics of both breeds as some will look more like a Chihuahua while others will look more like a Poodle and the same is true of how they act.

The little Chipoo can have floppy or pointed upright ears and a coat that is either wavy or curly or even more smooth and short like the Chihuahua. Its head can resemble the Poodle’s or the Chihuahua’s.

The smart, alert, eager Chipoo is a fun-loving dog who will thrive in an apartment as well as a small or large home with or without a yard. He loves an active life to use his intelligence and energy. However, he does not need a lot of exercise since playing with toys and being with his humans will give him activity. He will alert his owner to potential dangers and visitors with his barking.

Coat

Chipoos come in cream, brown, blue, brindle, silver, grey, fawn, white, and black or any combination of two or three of those colors. The coat can be short and coarse like a Chihuahua or longer and curlier like a Poodle. Some have very fuzzy coats that are a combination of traits. They can even have coats of varying lengths and types on different parts of their bodies. A weekly brushing is good for keeping the coat clean, but some will need more frequent brushing during spring and fall shedding season.

Be aware that Chipoos do not tolerate extreme cold or hot weather. They will need a sweater for cold days and if they go outdoors in hot, sunny weather, they will need sunscreen on ears, nose, and other sensitive areas.
